Network Visualization, a+u 2024:12

Opening the December 2024 issue of a+u magazine, this network graph serves as a key visual introduction to Nikken Sekkei's 25 major projects from 2000-2024. It visualizes the intricate web of connections between these significant projects and their contributing employees.

In Japanese organizations, individual contributors often remain hidden behind organizational structures. This network visualization reveals the people behind the scenes and their project connections. The resulting map uncovered distinctive patterns, from collaborative clusters to unexpected cross-team connections.

Each team member's name is color-coded by their project role, with special emphasis on design leads. The force-directed simulation naturally grouped "similar" projects, revealing architectural styles that had been difficult to articulate or measure.

About Nikken Galaxy

This visualization builds upon Nikken's internal project NIKKEN GALAXY, a web application developed by Daisuke Tsunoda, Daisuke Sasaki, Yoshinori Hatanaka and Yiyuan Qian in 2021.
