About TNHCC 2024: LIVING Exhibition
This installation is part of TNHCC 2024: LIVING (2024 臺北文創記憶中心 —— 理想居所) at Taipei Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, an exhibition exploring the concept of ideal living spaces through the lens of human scale and contemporary values.
Our installation is featured in the XR booth by NIKKEN SEKKEI, where we investigate the dimensions of living spaces through projection mapping technology.
Our installation: Commonsification of Living Spaces
Through six carefully selected projects captured through advanced 3D scanning technology, we examine how the boundaries between private and public spaces are increasingly blurred in modern living, as elements of domestic comfort extend beyond traditional residential boundaries. Drawing from the ancient principle that "Man is the measure of all things," the exhibition investigates how our values shape our perception of living spaces, both physically and psychologically.
Set in a darkened environment, the experience allows visitors to fully engage with the spatial qualities of each project.
The uniqueness of this installation lies in its dual presentation: each 3D scan is displayed at true 1:1 scale alongside its corresponding floor plan with precise measurements, enabling visitors to bridge the gap between numerical dimensions and spatial perception.
Technical Implementation
Our implementation leverages Gaussian Splatting technology to capture the six architectural projects. This cutting-edge method goes beyond traditional 3D reconstruction, preserving not only geometric accuracy but also the subtle atmospheric qualities and spatial essence of each project. The installation utilizes a sophisticated projection setup mirroring our XR STUDIO configuration, featuring three projectors that create an immersive volume of 4.8 x 2.7 x 2.7 meters.
Visitor Response
The installation received diverse and enthusiastic feedback from visitors. Families noted how children naturally engaged with and enjoyed the spatial experience, while prospective homeowners found it valuable for envisioning their future living spaces. Architecture enthusiasts particularly appreciated seeing how a large architectural firm could create accessible public installations, while many visitors simply found joy in the intuitive and immersive nature of the experience.
